Representative Jeff Denham

Representing the 10th District of California

Congressional Art Competition

2014 Art Competition

Our office has concluded 2014's Congressional Art Competition in California’s 10th district.

West High School student Madison Tessera won first place for her work, “The Cuckoo’s Nightmare.”

Second place was awarded to Neha Singh, another West High School student from Tracy, for “All of Your Colors,” an oil pastel piece on paper. Third place went to Perla Garcia, a Manteca resident from Ripon High School, for her work entitled “Retro Lady.”

Madison’s artwork will hang in the halls of the United States Capitol building for the next year for tens of thousands of visitors to see. She will also travel to Washington, D.C. this summer to attend a Winners Reception for students whose work took first prize in congressional districts across the country and receive a scholarship. Neha and Perla’s pieces will hang in my Modesto office.

All high school students in my district are encouraged to participate in the annual competition by submitting their artwork.

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nation-wide competition.
