Open enrollment for healthcare began this weekend, and all Americans must participate or face a penalty. If this round of sign-ups is anything like last year, we can expect long wait times, trouble logging on and the uncertainty of whether or not the plan you signed up for is suitable for you and your family.
Since its launch, the Healthcare.gov website had countless problems, leaving many Americans concerned about the safety and effectiveness of this $800 million debacle. Just like many of you, I had frustrating attempts at signing up for my healthcare plan. When making a significant healthcare decision for you and your family, you should feel at ease that your personal information is safe and the care will be high quality and affordable. In September of this year, it was reported a hacker was able to breach cyber security at HealthCare.gov website. Although officials say no personal information was taken, this invasion is inexcusable.
In a recent poll, 60 percent of voters said they want Obamacare to be repealed and replaced. Americans deserve a more patient-centered healthcare system that works in their best interest; starting with a layout that would let patients choose plans they want, doctors they need and at a cost they can afford.
When Jonathon Gruber, one of the key architects of Obamacare, spoke recently on the construction of the law, he said the “stupidity of the American voter” and the “lack of transparency” was critical for the passage of Obamacare in 2010. These comments made by Gruber underscore the importance of repealing and replacing Obamacare. No American should be forced to purchase health insurance under Obamacare when it was clearly passed largely on deception and broken promises. The disregard for the law’s contents and intentions is clear in Obamacare messaging starting with Minority Leader Pelosi when she claimed “we have to pass the bill, so you can find out what is in it.”
In late September of this year, Bloomberg Government conducted an analysis on the ‘Healthcare.gov’ website and concluded the costs now exceed $2.1 billion. The enrollment confusion and price continues to increase as more of this destructive law is implemented. The Administration has yet to disclose the actual cost of the website failures, leaving many to question its need of taxpayer dollars.
Americans should have the ability to select patient-centered healthcare that provides reliable and affordable coverage by allowing consumers to control their healthcare choices. The big government, top-down approach of Obamacare is simply not the solution hardworking Americans deserve.
