News from Congressman Scott Peters

October 29, 2014

Dear Friend,

One of my most important jobs is to help San Diegans cut through the bureaucracy of the federal government to get their questions answered and their earned benefits to them.

If you are having a problem with the VA, Social Security, or the IRS, need a passport application expedited, or help accessing services of the Small Business Administration, I hope you'll call my office at 858-455-5550. We have already recovered over $1.2 million in earned benefits that had been stuck or tied up in bureaucratic red tape. My office is here to help.

While being home in San Diego, I've also been busy meeting with people out in the community. Here is a small sample:

Opening a Local Veterans' Center

Serving San Diego's veterans population has been one of the greatest honors for me in Congress. I was proud to join my colleague Congresswoman Susan Davis at the opening of the University of San Diego's new Veterans' Center. This facility will make it easier for veterans to access resources on campus.

Education for the Future

Education in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) is essential to our country's ability to stay globally competitive. It was great to join Congresswoman Davis and Congressman Duncan Hunter at Coronado High School for FMA Live!, a fun program that shows students the great career opportunities that come from STEM education.

Story Time in Little Italy

Earlier this month, I got the chance to stop in at Washington Elementary in Little Italy during story time. I read them one of my favorites, The Seven Silly Eaters, and got to see their egg-drop science competition in action.

Confronting the ISIS Threat

Recently I was on KUSI News to talk about the dangerous threat that ISIS poses, and my upcoming bill with Congressman Juan Vargas to help keep Americans safe by stopping those who go fight for ISIS from coming back to the U.S. and harming us. Watch the segment by clicking the image below.
