Congresswoman Beatty Votes to Pass Bi-Partisan Defense Appropriations Bill

Washington, DC – Today U.S. Congresswoman Beatty (OH-03) voted in favor of the bi-partisan Defense Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2015, H.R. 4870. The $490.8 billion appropriations bill provides funding for the defense of the nation and armed services personnel. The legislation passed the House with a vote of 340-71.

“This bi-partisan appropriations bill provides funding for the tools and resources our men and women in uniform need to stay healthy and keep our country safe. I am particularly pleased that the bill contains a substantial increase in funds for traumatic brain injury research and psychological health,” said Rep. Beatty.

Rep. Beatty was particularly supportive of $125 million dedicated to traumatic brain injury research and psychological health. Congresswoman Beatty is a leader on improving education, research, and awareness about brain injuries and concussions. Earlier this month, she attended a White House summit on concussions and brain injuries among athletes and military service personnel. In addition, Rep. Beatty introduced the Concussion Awareness and Education Act, H.R. 3954, legislation that would require the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Defense to conduct research and make recommendations on the treatment and prevention of concussion injuries.

“The passage of this legislation is critical to providing our military branches and servicemembers the funding and resources they need to carry out their missions and return home safely,” said Rep. Beatty. “While today’s bill supports those currently serving, I will continue to work to ensure that our servicemembers and veterans, their families, and their survivors get the care and benefits they need and deserve.”
