McCarthy Statement on President Obama's Submission of Jobs Bill To Congress

Washington D.C. – Congressman Kevin McCarthy released the following statement regarding the President's decision to send to Congress legislation he outlined in his remarks before a Joint Session of Congress last week:

"I welcome the President's decision to send to Congress legislation composed of the proposals he outlined before a Joint Session of Congress last week. While we don't yet have all the details on the President's plan, House Republicans look forward to the Congressional Budget Office's analysis and hope to find areas of agreement. Earlier today, the White House indicated that this bill will include large tax increases to which House Republicans remain opposed. And while we do have some serious policy disagreements, we are ready and willing to sit down with the President to identify policies where we can work together to foster a climate of job creation through economic growth policies, such as tax relief and regulatory reform for entrepreneurs, small business owners, and hard working Americans in every industry. 

"However, we must carefully deliberate any new legislation to ensure we know all of the effects implementing a bill will have on our nation in the long-term so we don't repeat the mistakes of the President's first stimulus bills that did not produce jobs. House Republicans have been at work on our jobs agenda for months, and we encourage the President and his Administration to work with us to implement effective policy to address sustained high unemployment and stagnant private sector growth currently stifling our economy."
