Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure

  • Subcommittee on Highways and Transit
  • Ranking Member: Subcommittee Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management

The Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure oversees all modes of transportation: aviation, maritime and waterborne transportation, highways, bridges, mass transit, and railroads.  The Committee also has jurisdiction over other aspects of our national infrastructure, such as clean water and waste water management, the transport of resources by pipeline, flood damage reduction, the management of federally owned real estate and public buildings, the development of economically depressed rural and urban areas, disaster preparedness and response, and hazardous materials transportation. 

Subcommittee on Highways and Transit

The subcommittee oversees highway, transit, and highway safety programs in the United States, as well as policy governing how highway and transit projects are planned, approved, and constructed. Agencies within its jurisdiction are the Federal Highway Administration, the Federal Transit Administration, and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. It also oversees portions of the Clean Air Act related to vehicle fuel economy, including Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. 

Subcommittee on Aviation

The subcommittee has jurisdiction over civil aviation, including most aspects of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Transportation Security Administration, and the National Transportation Safety Board.

Committee on Armed Services

  • Subcommittee on Intelligence, Emerging Threats and Capabilities
  • Subcommittee on Strategic Forces

The Committee on Armed Services oversees all general defense policy, ongoing military operations, the organization and reform of the Department of Defense and Department of Energy, counter-drug programs, acquisition and industrial base policy, technology transfer and export controls, joint interoperability, the Cooperative Threat Reduction program, Department of Energy nonproliferation programs, and detainee affairs and policy.

Subcommittee on Intelligence, Emerging Threats and Capabilities

The subcommittee is responsible for overseeing counter-terrorism programs and initiatives and counter-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Additionally, this subcommittee oversees U.S. Special Operations Forces, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), information technology and programs, force protection policy and oversight, and related intelligence support. It makes sure that our nation is protected against terrorist attacks and unconventional threats.

Subcommittee on Strategic Forces

The subcommittee has jurisdiction over our nation’s strategic weapons, ballistic missile defense, space programs, and Department of Energy national security programs. It makes sure our nation is properly prepared for any missile or nuclear attacks.
