Boehner Announces Appointment of Andrew MacKenzie

WASHINGTON, D.C. Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) today announced Andrew MacKenzie of Greenville has received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Whether in academics, athletics or volunteer service, Andrew is an exemplary young man who strives to achieve the highest level of excellence, Boehner said. I am certain he will serve the academy, our community and our country with pride and honor.

Andrew attends Greenville High School where he excels both in the classroom and on the playing field. He boasts a 4.158 GPA, scored a 1300 on his SATs and belongs to the National Technical Honor Society. He also serves as Senior Class President. Additionally, Andrew has been the starting quarterback for the past two years and held the highest batting average as a junior catcher on the baseball team. He is actively involved in his church youth group, and has become an outstanding leader among his peers.

Andrew is one of 24 high school students nominated by Boehner to the nations service academies last year. Upon completion of four years at West Point, Andrew will serve as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army and serve a minimum of five years on active duty.

Service academy nominations are based on academic achievement, athletic accomplishments, community involvement, commitment to service and strength of character. A congressional nomination does not assure an appointment, and appointments are made solely by the respective academy on a competitive basis.

Boehner represents Ohios 8th District, which includes all of Darke, Miami and Preble counties, most of Butler and Mercer counties, and the northeastern corner of Montgomery County. He was first elected to Congress in 1990.
