WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC-02) released the following statement this afternoon after speaking on the House floor regarding the failures of the Obamacare exchanges:

"Since the launch of the Obamacare exchanges on October 1st, Healthcare.gov has been plagued with delays, errors and fundamental flaws in website design. But despite these major malfunctions and structural defects, the administration still has penalties in place for individuals who can't obtain coverage. Because of this, I am working on legislation to ensure that Americans are not punished for failing to buy a health plan from a dysfunctional system. Hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars are being spent on a system that does not work."

"Tomorrow we will be hearing testimony on the Energy and Commerce Committee from contractors that put this flawed system into place. It's unfortunate that our main witness - HHS Secretary Sebelius - has chosen to attend a fundraising gala rather than explain these failures. The American people are demanding answers, and I will not rest until this law is repealed and replaced with responsible reforms."
