Ellmers Named to Joint Conference Committee

Congresswoman Ellmers Appointed to Joint Conference Committee to

Find Solutions to Payroll Tax Extension Legislation

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Renee Ellmers released the following statement from her office in Washington this afternoon:

"I am honored to have the privilege to serve on this Joint Conference Committee and thank Speaker Boehner for choosing me. We have serious problems in our country and they require serious solutions."

"Millions of Americans are struggling to make ends meet and it is our duty to pass legislation that provides for a sustainable future. Last week we passed a bill here in the House that extends the payroll tax cut for a full year. The Senate refuses to do the job they were elected to do and is being irresponsible. I urge Senator Reid to do what Speaker Boehner is doing today and name conferees to this committee so we can work out our differences as regular order would require us to do."

"We can do great things and our constituents deserve nothing less. I am honored to be appointed to this committee and will continue to do what it takes to protect our economy and the millions of Americans who rely on responsible action by their elected representatives."

This afternoon, Congresswoman Renee Ellmers was appointed by Speaker Boehner to serve on the Joint Conference Committee to resolve the House and Senate versions of the payroll tax bills. She will be serving alongside Representatives Kevin Brady (R-TX), Dave Camp (R-MI), Nan Hayworth (R-NY), Tom Price (R-GA), Tom Reed (R-NY), Fred Upton (R-MI) and Greg Walden (R-OR).
