Congresswoman Ellmers Congratulates American Idol Winner Garner Native Scotty McCreery
May 26 2011WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Renee Ellmers released the following statement from her office in Washington this morning:
"I'm absolutely thrilled to congratulate our own Scotty McCreery for his victory as the new American Idol. Like millions of Americans, I've been following Scotty's progress ever since he first auditioned for the competition and was amazed at his gifted voice. Scotty personifies the American Dream and how with hard work, faith, and dedication, you can accomplish anything. I'm excited to see where his career will go and look forward to many hometown concerts for years to come."
Last night on American Idol, Scotty McCreery, a native of Garner, North Carolina was proclaimed this year's American Idol after a record 122.4 million votes from across the country. Garner sits right outside of Raleigh, North Carolina and lies in the second district, represented by Congresswoman Ellmers. Two weeks ago, Congresswoman Ellmers was in Garner to meet Scotty and welcome him home during a homecoming concert that Saturday. Throughout the competition, her offices in Dunn and Washington have featured "Vote Scotty" posters, greeting visitors as they learn more about the district.
