I am a member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the main investigative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. It has jurisdiction to investigate any federal program and any matter with federal policy implications. I sit on three subcommittees: the Subcommittee on Government Management, Organization, and Procurement; the Subcommittee on Information Policy, Census, and National Archives; and the Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs.

New Legislation Would Help Ensure Taxpayers Get Their Fair Share of Oil Royalties

WASHINGTON, DC – New legislation in Congress would help ensure that the federal government uses the most accurate methods to collect royalties on natural resources taken by oil and gas companies from taxpayer-owned land. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (NY-14) introduced the bill (H.R. 6368), which would direct the National Academy of Engineering to conduct a study analyzing methods that could greatly improve the accuracy of royalty collection on the production of oil, condensate and natural gas under leases of Federal onshore and offshore lands and onshore Indian Tribal lands (text of bill).

New Report on African American and Latino Hardship Rates Shows the Importance of SIPP Data

NEW YORK, NY – Sky high gas prices in the Big Apple are hitting New York families in the wallet to the tune of $880 a year more than what they paid in 2001, according to a new Congressional staff report (click here for report).
