More on Oversight and Government Reform
WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), Chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and lead sponsor of H.R. 3699 (“The Research Works Act”), and Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), senior member of the committee and co-sponsor of the measure, submitted the following statement today to the Congressional Record regarding the bill:
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta regarding recent reports of a Department of the Navy request to redact information from an Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) report about water contamination at the U.S. Marine Corps base, Camp Lejeune—where for three decades, thousands of Marines and their families consumed tap water contaminated with toxic chemicals that likely led to cancers and other illnesses, but have yet to receive justice.
WASHINGTON, DC-- Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, senior member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, delivered the following opening remarks at today's hearing titled 'Separation of Church and State' on the Obama Administration's recent contraception decision, where not a single woman was allowed at the witness table by the Committee's majority.
New York, NY – Today, U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan, Queens), a longtime supporter of campaign finance reform, urged House Republicans to bring up for a vote the DISCLOSE 2012 Act (H.R. 4010), which requires disclosure of corporate and special interest money in politics. Maloney is an original cosponsor of the legislation.
WASHINGTON, DC – An amendment sponsored by Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) to require a study to improve the measurement of oil and natural gas extracted from leased federal and Tribal lands was attached to the Consolidated Land, Energy, and Aquatic Resources (CLEAR) Act, H.R. 3534, comprehensive legislation that will provide greater efficiency and accountability to the management and regulation of energy resources to be considered by the full House today.
Madam Speaker,
I rise in strong support of HR 5481, granting Subpoena Power to the Commission Investigating the BP Oil Spill. Last month, President Obama established the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling, a panel that will be vital to investigating the disaster and assuring this does not happen again. However, this Commission does not have subpoena power, something critical to ensuring the full disclosure of evidence and witnesses.
