Black History Month
I would like to invite students throughout the 9th Congressional District to participate in a special multimedia competition in celebration of Black History Month.
Who: Students in the 9th Congressional District in the following divisions:
- Grades 6th-8th
- Grades 9th-12th
What: An original poem, essay, or video relating to important events or figures in black history. Students are welcome to write on a historical figure, a contemporary figure or important event.
When: Submissions must be received by Friday, February 28th, 2014
How: Submissions can either be submitted online at by using the form below, by fax at (586) 498-7123 or by email to Amanda.York@mail.house.gov . For video submission please upload the video to youtube.com and within the Title of Submission from below include the video's url. We encourage all participates using video submissions to tag their video with the MI09-Black-HistoryContest tag.
Judging: A panel comprised of local residents will judge all submissions and make recommendations to Congressman Levin in each division.
Winners: Each participant will receive a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Congressman Sander Levin. The finalists will be invited to meet with Congressman Levin and featured on his website, www.levin.house.gov. Each division winner will also receive a book celebrating Black History in the United States.
