CHC CHAIRMAN CELEBRATES HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

FULL REMARKS

"Hello, I’m Congressman Rubén Hinojosa, Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. The CHC is comprised of 27 Latino legislators and works to advance the priorities of the Latino community.

Hispanic Heritage Month is a special time for the Latino community and the United States at large.   From September 15th to October 15th, we as a nation come together to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and recognize the contributions the Latino community has made to the foundation of America.

The Latino community is rich in history and the progress our community has made is enormous.  In Congress, the CHC was founded in 1976 by five Hispanic Congressmen: Congressman Hernan Badillo from New York, Congressman Baltasar Corrada del Río from Puerto Rico, Congressman Kika de la Garza from Texas, Congressman Henry B. Gonzalez from Texas and Congressman Edward Roybal from California.

The CHC has grown to 27 Members today, with 9 new Members in this 113th Congress alone.  My CHC colleagues and I are working to ensure that every American - regardless of where he or she comes from - has the opportunity to achieve the American Dream.  From creating jobs to providing affordable healthcare and quality education, the CHC is fighting for working families.  We want to ensure that our kids - our hijos, hijas, nietos y nietas - have the opportunities they need to succeed.

This month, join me in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.  Together we can educate, empower and connect.  ¡Juntos podemos construir un futuro mejor!"
