CHC CHAIRMAN CELEBRATES CONSTITUTION DAY AND CITIZENSHIP DAY

Sep 17, 2014 Issues: Immigration

Washington, DC- Today, Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chairman Rubén Hinojosa (TX-15) released the following statement in honor of Constitution Day and Citizenship Day which is observed annually on September 17th.

"On this Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, we celebrate two important pillars that make the United States the great nation that it is today: the U.S. Constitution and citizenship.  Drafted by our Founding Fathers 227 years ago, the U.S. Constitution serves as the foundation of our country.  It lays the framework for our American democracy and continues to serve as a model to countries and people around the world.

It is also an important day to honor the many immigrants who have become citizens of our great country.  Citizenship affords us many opportunities, including the right to vote.  This Hispanic Heritage Month, I encourage the Hispanic American community to register to vote and to help friends and family do the same. Your vote matters more than ever before and it is important that you make your voice heard at every level of government.
