New York, NY- Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-Roosevelt Island, Manhattan, Queens) wrote a letter last Friday to the Army Corps of Engineers (ACE) urging the ACE to render a decision on the proposed Roosevelt Island water taxi dock. The application, filed more than a year and a half ago by the architecture firm Becker & Becker Associates, seeks permission to build and operate a water taxi dock near the Octagon, a residential development on the northern end of Roosevelt Island. Rep. Maloney points to increases in accessibility and security as advantages of the addition.
Roosevelt Island, NY – On Monday, U.S. Representative Carolyn Maloney of New York’s 14th Congressional District joined with Stephen H. Shane, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC); City Councilwoman Jessica Lappin; and local community leaders Matthew Katz, Sheri Helstien, Margie Smith, and Micah Kellner to announce an effort to secure $10 million to rehabilitate, restore, and partially replace the aging Roosevelt Island Seawall. The announcement was made in Lighthouse Park near the northern tip of Roosevelt Island, near a section of the Seawall that was badly damaged when it was struck by a barge just over two years ago.
NEW YORK, NY - Originally requested in September of 1997, the final Roosevelt Island Seawall Study performed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACOE), was received this week by the Roosevelt Island Operating Committee (RIOC) and Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY). The study investigated the condition of the seawall that structurally supports Roosevelt Island as well as the non-sea-walled, South-End shoreline of the island. The seawall study states, “While imminent failure is not a concern, an appropriate preventative maintenance program should be undertaken.”
