Maloney (D-NY) reintroduced the “Repairing Young Women’s Lives around the World Act” (H.R. 2114).  The bipartisan bill would mandate $34 million to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to prevent, treat, and renew the hopes of women suffering from obstetric fistula, a horrific and debilitating condition found predominantly in sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Arab States.

WASHINGTON, DC – A bipartisan group of lawmakers are reintroducing legislation in both the U.S. House and Senate intended to give Americans better warning about the cancer risks associated with the use of tanning beds. The Tanning Accountability and Notification Act (TAN Act, H.R. 945) would direct the Food and Drug Administration to re-examine the warning label on tanning beds with the purpose of ensuring that it most effectively communicates the risk of skin cancer and other serious skin conditions.

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the Food and Drug Administration said it will make the Plan B emergency contraceptive pill available without a prescription for women 18 and over. Plan B will remain available as a prescription-only product for women age 17 and under. For 3 years FDA had refused to approve applications to give Plan B over-the-counter status despite the fact that in 2003, FDA's own panel of experts vote voted 23-4 in favor of over-the-counter status for Plan B.
