As Chair of the Joint Economic Committee, I will continue to aggressively push to address the serious economic crisis our country faces. The Committee will focus on the economic crisis and recession as they unfold, and will be actively involved with crafting our path to recovery.
The Joint Economic Committee, established under the Employment Act of 1946, was created by Congress to review economic conditions and to analyze the effectiveness of economic policy. As Chair, I am committed to providing an accurate and up to date picture of our economy by holding hearings and releasing reports that review crucial aspects of our nation’s economic policy. Each week, the JEC’s staff prepares the Weekly Economic Digest. The Digest tracks and analyzes the trends of key economic indicators, such as employment, productivity, inflation, retail sales, housing starts, and the financial markets. Members of Congress and others find the digest useful as a quick reference for recent statistics on the economy.

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) hailed the signing of the Small Business Jobs Act today by President Obama. The final version of the bill was passed by the House last week after modifications by the Senate.
WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) offered the following remarks in support of the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act of 2010, H.R. 5297, which passed the House today.
Madam Speaker, the Small Business Jobs and Credit Act of 2010 (HR 5297) will strengthen our current economic recovery, by strengthening our small businesses.
This legislation is sorely needed to bolster our small firms, which have lagged their larger counterparts in recovering from the Great Recession.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) issued the following statement applauding Senate passage of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act:
I rise in strong support of H.R.5618, the Restoration of Emergency Unemployment Compensation Act. At a time of unprecedented unemployment, when 1 in 10 Americans have lost their jobs through no fault of their own, it is unconscionable that Republicans have blocked for months the extension of critical unemployment benefits that help individuals and their families make ends meet while they continue to search for work.
“This is a new day. Just over twelve months ago, President Obama called for major reforms as we were desperately trying to climb from the depths of the financial crisis. And today we've achieved the vast majority of his goals. He can attend the G20 meeting with a stronger hand to help lead the world out of this recession.
