TX GOP to Gov. Perry: ObamaCare Navigators in Texas Need to be Properly Vetted and Trained to Protect Texans

Nov 6, 2013
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Randy Weber (R-Friendswood) authored a letter, jointly signed by the entire Texas House Republicans delegation, to Governor Perry encouraging him to ensure ObamaCare exchange navigators in Texas are properly vetted, trained and state-certified.

The Texas State Legislature passed a bill prohibiting navigators from using certain advertising methods, from receiving compensation from a health benefit plan issuer, and from providing certain services unless they are a licensed agent. Governor Perry signed the legislation into law on June 14, 2013. Governor Perry also wrote a letter to Texas Department of Insurance’s (TDI) Commissioner Julia Rathberger requiring all exchange navigators go through a rigorous training course, pass an exam and be required to submit background and regulatory checks, as well as, provide proof of state-issued identification and report back to TDI regularly.

“It is great to see all the necessary efforts made by Governor Perry and the Texas State Legislature to ensure that hard-working Texas families will not fall victim to potential errors or fraud due to un-vetted, inexperienced and improperly trained Navigators” said Congressman Weber. “As a Texas delegation, we wanted to show our support for the Governor’s efforts, and encourage him to ensure that all measures are taken to protect the citizens of Texas from any further intrusions by the federal government.”
