Rep. Paulsen Congratulates Edina on Being Named One of America’s “100 Best Communities for Young People”

Award recognizes Edina’s innovative dropout prevention programs

Washington, D.C. – Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03), today accepted the “100 Best Communities for Young People” award from the America’s Promise Alliance and ING on behalf of the city of Edina.   The award is given to towns and cities across the country that have effectively battled our nation’s dropout crisis by forming innovative partnerships and making young people a top priority.

“As a parent I’ve always believed Minnesota is a great place for kids. And I’m proud to say the people of Edina have really come together to put kids first. It’s a pleasure to accept this well deserved award on behalf of Edina’s community leaders, teachers, parents and students,” said Rep. Paulsen.

“I am hopeful that other communities in Minnesota and across the country will take note of the work Edina has been doing to improve dropout prevention programs. Educating our nation’s young people and providing them with the tools to graduate high school and continue to exceed is truly critical work.”

In the United States, nearly 1.3 million students drop out each year—one every 26 seconds.  The 100 Best Communities for Young People competition recognizes the innovative partnerships that communities big and small have formed to end this crisis.  The winning communities were selected by a blue-ribbon panel of judges that included some of the nation’s most well-known civic, business and nonprofit leaders.
