WASHINGTON, DC –  Congressman Erik Paulsen will lace up the skates and throw on the gloves as he participates in the annual Congressional Hockey Challenge (CHC) this evening at Kettler Capitals Iceplex, the practice facility of the NHL’s Washington Capitals. Featured in the game will be a bipartisan team of lawmakers and staff competing against a roster composed of Washington lobbyists. The event will raise money for a host of charities including the USA Warriors Ice Hockey Program, an organization that administers opportunities for the nation’s wounded veterans to participate in recreational ice hockey. Since 2009, the CHC has raised over $400,000 for featured charities like the Thurgood Marshall Fund which has teamed up with the NHL to give scholarships to hockey playing youth. In support of the event, the Stanley Cup was placed on display in the U.S. Capitol building Wednesday morning.

“Every year, I circle the date of the Congressional Hockey Challenge on my calendar,” said Congressman Paulsen. “Getting out on the ice with my colleagues is a great way to have some fun for the love of hockey and a cause that has no partisan boundaries. More importantly, this event raises money for some great charities that support our nation’s wounded veterans and provide college scholarships for inner city youth.”
