FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 13th, 2011

Paulsen Statement on the Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act

Washington, D.C. – Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03), member of the House Ways & Means Committee, released the following statement after the passage of The Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act, which passed the House with a bipartisan vote of 234 to 193. This legislation includes fully paid-for extensions of the payroll tax holiday, unemployment insurance benefits, and protects seniors by creating greater certainty for physicians under Medicare.

In addition, this legislation prevents $9.4 billion in fraudulent payments from the Social Security Administration by making sure beneficiaries have a valid social security number, as well as a provision for the bipartisan Keystone XL energy project which will create an immediate 20,000 new jobs.

“Getting Minnesotans back to work continues to be my number one priority,” said Rep. Paulsen. “Ultimately, Washington needs to be focused on long term solutions to reform the tax code and the way Washington spends taxpayer’s money.  We must continue to instill policies that will get our economy back to creating new jobs, and move out of work Americans from unemployment checks to paychecks.”
