Paulsen Statement on Administration's Announcement about Japan and TPP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 12th, 2013

Paulsen Statement on Administration’s
Announcement about Japan and TPP

Encouraging Step Forward for Critical Trans-Pacific Trade Agreement

Washington, D.C. – Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03), member of the Ways and Means Committee, released the following statements after the Administration announced completion of bilateral consultations with Japan about its interest in joining the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Japan is Minnesota’s third largest export market.

“Emerging markets in Asia are huge growth opportunities for Minnesota employers, workers, and farmers,” said Rep. Paulsen. “I am hopeful that Japan’s participation and inclusion as a TPP partner will move them to address their barriers to U.S. exports, and enhance the opportunity for a successful rules-based system of trade in the Asian-Pacific region that will drive global growth and opportunity. I look forward to continuing to work with the United States Trade Representative as TPP moves forward."

Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus.
