Paulsen Responds to the Release of President Obama’s 2013 Budget

President’s budget ensures more spending, more taxes, and more debt

Washington, D.C. – This morning, President Obama introduced his Fiscal Year 2013 budget proposal, calling for tax hikes, record level spending increases, and more debt. Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03), member of the House Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement in response to the President’s budget plan:

“I’ve heard families and small businesses in our community express the dire need for solutions to decrease our crushing debt and get Minnesotans back to work. Unfortunately, the President’s budget proposes $47 trillion in spending over the next 10 years, while imposing a nearly $2 trillion tax increase on American families and small businesses. Adding trillions of dollars in new debt to fund wasteful Washington spending is not a viable solution to our nation’s problems. Minnesota families deserve better than more budget gimmicks and broken promises. I will continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to advance solutions which address our spending driven debt crisis and set us on a path to economic growth and prosperity.”

NOTE:  The House Ways and Means Committee will hold a hearing this Wednesday to review the President’s Fiscal Year 2013 Budget Proposal with U.S. Department of the Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner.

Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation currently serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus, as well as the U.S.–Korea Free Trade Working Group.
