Paulsen on Passage of

The Gabriella Miller #KidsFirst Research Act

Bill eliminates taxpayer financing of presidential campaigns and uses funds to expand pediatric research

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) issued the following statement after the House passed the Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act by a bipartisan vote of 295 to 103. This pivotal piece of legislation, cosponsored by Congressman Paulsen, eliminates taxpayer financing of presidential campaigns and party conventions and uses these funds to expand pediatric research at the National Institutes of Health through the NIH Common Fund.

“Minnesota has always led the charge in the research of childhood diseases and our steadfast exploration for cures – AND more CAN be done.” said Congressman Paulsen. “One in every 330 children in the United States develops cancer before the age of nineteen. Ending taxpayer-funded welfare for political campaigns and using that money to give American children their childhoods back is something everyone should agree on.”

The Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act is named after a ten-year-old Virginia girl who died in October after being diagnosed with an inoperable, cancerous brain tumor. Learn more: http://goo.gl/qL3Pef
