Paulsen Leads Special Discussion on Repealing the Medical Device Tax

Paulsen Leads Special Discussion on Repealing the Medical Device Tax
“It’s time to repeal the Medical Device Tax for jobs, for innovation, and for Minnesota”

Washington, D.C. – Last night, Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) lead a special hour-long discussion on the floor of the House of Representatives on the importance of repealing the disastrous medical device tax. Paulsen was joined by a bipartisan group of eight members to discuss the devastating impact the tax has on local economies and on our nation’s ability to develop and bring to market new life-saving and life-improving technologies. So far, the tax has collected more than $1.7 billion at a cost of over 10,000 jobs.

“That essentially means less research and development, it means less innovation, and in the end that means less opportunity for American patients to access breakthrough technologies, and many of us, and I will argue, would also say that that means it is also going to result in healthcare and in lowering healthcare costs because technology holds the great ability to lower healthcare costs.

“Mr. Speaker I there are a lot of issues where democrats and republicans don’t necessarily see eye to eye, but I think we can all agree on this, the single worst thing we can do in America is crush our inventive spirit and that is exactly what this new medical device tax does and is doing.” – Rep. Paulsen

“Where ever I go, I hear people wanting folks in Congress to work together and here we have an issue where we have, as Mr. Paulsen said, 260 cosponsors, a majority of the House of Representatives is already on the legislation to repeal the medical device tax. So, I applaud his leadership in working in a constructive way and building a coalition around this issue.” – Rep. Matheson

Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus.
