Paulsen: It’s Time Washington Delivers on a Balanced Budget

House Passes a Plan to Balance the Budget, Create Jobs, and Fix a Broken Tax Code

Washington, D.C. – Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03), member of the House Ways and Means Committee, issued the following statement upon the passage of the Path to Prosperity, the House Republican fiscal year 2014 budget resolution.

“While Minnesota families and businesses have tightened their belts and made tough choices about their spending habits, Washington has continued to spend more than it takes in, leaving our nation with a $16.7 trillion debt burden. The House Republican budget plan offers common sense policies to change that habit, finally control government spending, and balance the budget.

“Balancing our budget will get our economy rolling and create jobs, give greater opportunity for young people, and save, preserve, and protect important programs for seniors. The plan also outlines a direction to reform our out-of-date tax code, and addresses the drivers of the debt in order to foster a healthier economy. It’s time Washington takes a queue from Minnesota families; it’s time Washington delivers on a balanced budget.”

Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus.
