Paulsen Encourages Minnesotans to Speak Out About Balanced Budget Amendment

Washington, D.C. – In 1995, Congress came one vote short of passing a balanced budget amendment to the constitution, which would have forced the federal government to live within its means. Later this fall, both Chambers of Congress will consider a balanced budget amendment and have another opportunity to curb government spending and begin to pay down the skyrocketing national debt.   Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03) today issued a statement encouraging Minnesotans to share their opinion regarding a balanced budget amendment by using the platform: America Speaking Out.

“For many families in my district, daily life includes setting priorities, making tough choices, and living within their means. Yet, the same cannot be said for Washington,” said Rep. Paulsen. “With our spending-driven debt crisis continuing to threaten our economic recovery, Washington needs to stop spending money it simply does not have.  A balanced budget amendment would be a meaningful structural reform to curb Washington’s appetite for spending.”

America Speaking Out was unveiled last year and gives the American people a way to make their voices heard. Representative Paulsen is encouraging all Minnesotans to visit America Speaking Out to learn more and share their opinion regarding a Balanced Budget Amendment.

Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation currently serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Korea-U.S. Free Trade Working Group and co-chair of the House Medical Technology Caucus.
