Paulsen Applauds Advancement of Trans-Pacific Partnership Negotiations

Agreements Support American Economic Opportunity and Job Growth

Eden Prairie, MN– The United States and its Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) partners reached an agreement today on an outline for an ambitious, job-creating trade agreement between the nine TPP countries. TPP negotiators from the United States, Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam outlined steady progress on the packages they are negotiating for access to each other’s markets. The agreement seeks to support the creation of high-quality American jobs by increasing exports to a economically robust region which represents more than 40% of global trade. Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03), member of the House Ways and Means Committee,  issued the following statement on the negotiated outline:

“The ambitious, potentially job-creating and market-opening Trans-Pacific Partnership has the potential to greatly expand U.S. trade, create American jobs and reinforce our relationships in the region,” said Rep. Paulsen. “Japan’s expressed intention to join the TPP is welcome news, and only adds to the partnership’s potential. I commend the negotiations and support the swift adoption of the best possible agreement.”

Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation currently serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional U.S.–Korea Free Trade Working Group.
