FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 4th, 2013

Paulsen Discusses IRS Scandal with Targeted Organizations

Watch Paulsen’s Questioning HERE.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03) discussed the IRS’s targeting of organizations based on their beliefs with leaders from some of the groups affected. The Ways and Means Committee is leading an investigation into whether the IRS treated applicants for tax-exempt status differently because of their personal beliefs. The agency now admits to the practice, and Rep. Paulsen and the committee are continuing their work to determine how the practice was established, why it was allowed to continue, and what actions need to be taken moving forward.

“This is not a mistake by the IRS, as some have mentioned today. This is not poor customer service, as the Acting Commissioner Miller testified a few weeks ago. This abuse was systemic. And the American people deserve answers so this type of activity never happens again.” – Rep. Paulsen

Witnesses at today’s hearing included:

Mr. John Eastman

Chairman, National Organization for Marriage

Ms. Diane Besom

Laurens County Tea Party

Ms. Becky Gerritson

Wetumpka Tea Party

Ms. Karen Kenny

San Fernando Valley Patriots

Mr. Kevin Kookogey

Founder and President, Linchpins of Liberty

Ms. Sue Martinek

Coalition for Life of Iowa
