Renee Ellmers on Ebola in US: We Should Restrict Travel

The Obama administration should restrict travel in light of the news that a man with the Ebola virus was diagnosed in the United States, says Rep. Renee Ellmers, who worked as a registered nurse for over 20 years.

"Obviously, there weren't enough questions asked when the gentleman found his way to the emergency room," the North Carolina Republican told Ed Berliner on "MidPoint" on Newsmax TV Thursday.

"One of the key questions that has to be asked when someone is presenting with an unknown illness is 'have you been traveling recently and where have you been traveling?'" she explained.

"That's significant to getting for every patient that comes into the emergency room," she said.

"Unfortunately, this was miffed, but I will say this is a wakeup call for all of us," she added.

"I don't believe that we should feel we're in a situation now where we should be overreacting," Ellmers said.

However, she told Newsmax that she disagrees "with the White House that we're not going to restrict travel."

"We need to put some initiatives in place so that those who are traveling from some of these countries where we know that there's already been outbreaks are addressed appropriately," she explained.

"If anyone is showing signs and symptoms of illness, they need to be quarantine," she said.
