YOHO STATEMENT ON COSPONSORING H.R. 3076
H.R. 3076, the James Madison Congressional Accountability Act, requires Members of Congress, all congressional staff, the President, Vice President, and political appointees enroll in the Affordable Care Act exchanges. It also limits any subsidies to those that would similarly be available to the general public.
Upon cosponsoring Congressman Yoho said, “This bill rests on the simple premise that those who write laws should be subject to them. I am no fan of the Affordable Care Act, but if this law will be forced on the American people then the President, his Administration, Congress, and congressional staff should not be exempt from its effects. Congressional loopholes and legislative smoke-and-mirrors are just the types of games that the American people are tired of. I am proud to cosponsor this bill with my friend, and colleague from Florida, Congressman DeSantis.”
Congressman Yoho continued, “I do not want any special exemptions. I am willing to do what I have to in order to pay extra and not receive any special subsidies. I intend to enroll in the same insurance exchanges as everyone else. I should not be shielded from the effects of this terrible law if my constituents aren’t. That is not proper representation.”
