Rep. Holding: President Must Take Firm, Unequivocal Stand
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman George Holding released the following statement after the president's speech on the terrorist threat posed by ISIS:
"When it comes to eliminating the threat of ISIS, the hard truth is we really don’t have a choice.
"But make no mistake: The difficulty of the military campaign in front of us should not be sugar-coated or understated. The president needs to take a firm, unequivocal stand – and he needs to level with the American people every step of the way as we go forward.
"The plan the president has outlined – increased airstrikes, counter-terrorism tactics, and the training and arming of groups like the Kurds and Syrian opposition – will, hopefully, prove to be a step in the right direction. But, in candor, the military campaign the president has proposed – to eliminate ISIS – must go beyond what has been outlined and include a long-term strategy.
"Congress’s responsibility, as we go forward, will be to provide the authorizations, as needed, to accomplish our goal of destroying ISIS."
