Congressman George Holding

Representing the 13th District of North Carolina

Rep. Holding Discusses Foreign Policy & Economy in WGBR Interview

Aug 7, 2014
Press Release

Congressman George Holding (NC-13) talked with WGBR's Carol Bowden about the president's failing foreign policy and solutions to boost our economy – such as reforming the tax code and cutting wasteful spending. Audio and key excerpts are below:

Rep. Holding on Terrorism in Iraq:

"Iraq has gone from being a nation that we liberated from Saddam Hussein to being a safe haven for terrorists who reach out and inflict terror around the world. …

“This terrorist group [ISIS] is more dangerous than al Qaeda – they’re self-sustaining. They overran the central bank in Mosul and took out over half a billion – they overran it, they robbed the bank – and reports say they got upwards of half a billion dollars. …

“And we had the opportunity last year, we had hearings in the foreign affairs committee last year notifying the administration that this terrorist threat was building, it’s building, these are the reports that we are getting out of the area. And the Obama administration did nothing. The Iraqis came in and asked for drone strikes when the terrorist group, they were camped out in the desert prior to attacking Baghdad. And they [Iraqis] asked for air strikes – the Obama administration declined to do that. This feeds into a complete narrative of the Obama administration – they just want to pretend that nothing is wrong in the world.”

Rep. Holding on the Economy:

"So we’re moving much, much in the wrong direction. We have to cut spending – we really have to cut spending. But we also need to get this country growing again, and I think through tax reform, it would be a great way to get the country growing."
