Time to buckle up – House Republicans are back on Cruz Control.
A look at today’s news reveals the House Republican Conference deeply divided once again as the party’s most conservatives Members continue to buck House Republican leaders with threats of another government shutdown.
Just in case you thought House Republicans were ready to stop threatening to shut down the government, think again.
It’s been nearly five months since the Senate passed a multi-year extension of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act by a strong bipartisan vote of 93-4, yet House Republican leaders still haven’t brought legislation to the Floor, despite our urging.
Wanted to be sure you saw today’s Republican quote of the day on the need for House Republicans to work with Democrats to pass legislation to fund the government, courtesy of Republican Senator Richard Burr from North Carolina:
As Republicans continue to threaten another shutdown showdown, we wanted to make sure you saw today’s editorial in the New York Times:
While House Republicans are busy criticizing the President’s decision to take action on immigration, maybe they should take a harder look at themselves.
A new poll shows what we’ve known all along: the American people are fed up with Congressional gridlock and want both parties to work together to get things done.
Surprise, surprise: Republicans’ shutdown threats are still making headlines.
Here we go again... If you breathed a sigh of relief on October 1 when Republicans didn’t shut down the government again, you may have relaxed too soon.
Earlier today, Speaker Boehner shared a list of his ideas on how to create jobs. There was just one problem… it was completely empty.
After House Republicans cut out of town early last week comes the not-so-surprising news that their record of inaction, obstruction, and partisanship has resulted in the least productive Congress in 60 years.
FACT: Last night, Republican Senators blocked the Paycheck Fairness Act for the fourth time this year.
As we continue to wait to see a continuing resolution from House Republicans, it sounds like there may already be trouble in paradise.
Wanted to make sure you saw today’s article in the New York Times that discusses how the far-right wing of the GOP continues to control their party on immigration, even though the majority of Republicans and the American public disagrees with their hard-line stance.
As we sit here waiting to see text of House Republicans’ second, even more partisan border supplemental bill, we thought we’d put together a quick timeline (in gifs, of course) to highlight how ridiculous the past 48 hours have been, and keep everyone entertained on this Friday afternoon.
These headlines speak for themselves.
Then – “This House is committed to addressing it…. [W]e will keep our commitment that we will end this crisis no matter what it takes. This House will act.” – Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy on the House Floor, 7/25/14
Now – The Hill: House Cancels Border Vote “House GOP leaders canceled a Thursday vote on their $659 million border bill after failing to corral conservative members behind the measure. A significant number of Republicans had balked at sending any money to the White House for the border, and Democrats were generally united in opposing the measure. The decision is another defeat for House GOP leaders, who have repeatedly failed to bring their members in line on tough votes.” [7/31/14]
Because we couldn’t help ourselves, here’s a look at how House Republicans’ border supplemental fiasco is playing out on Twitter:

How many times have we seen this movie before? RT @StevenTDennis: BREAKING: House vote on border supplemental has been postponed
It’s been a rough day for the brand-new House GOP leadership.
As the House Republican leadership prepares to assume their new positions, we wanted to remind them of one of the key components of Republicans’ 2010 “Pledge to America:” the Three-Day Rule.
This can’t be the headline that GOP leadership was hoping for this morning, but as we’ve seen time and time again, this is what happens when House Republicans decide to go even further to the right on a bill to nowhere instead of working with Democrats on a bipartisan basis.
As Republicans hold a hearing today once again claiming that the Dodd-Frank law has ruined the American economy, financial system, and capitalism as we know it, there’s just one basic question you should ask yourself: How much has your retirement savings gone up since Dodd-Frank was signed into law?
This morning, Budget Chairman Paul Ryan unveiled his “anti-poverty” proposal.
