Passport Day in the USA

On Saturday, March 9, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., U.S. citizens may apply for or renew their passport book or passport card at any one of 25 passport agencies/centers that are open to the general public. No appointment is necessary on March 9 – normally, U.S. citizens would have to make an appointment at passport agencies.

The Chicago Passport Agency is hosting a special event in Chicago, Illinois from 10:00am until 3:00pm to provide passport information to U.S. citizens and accept passport application. For this day only, appointments are not required for customers to apply directly at a regional passport agency. Additionally, regional passport agencies will only charge the $60 expedite fee to customers requesting this service. Please contact Bernice Brewer by phone at 312-913-6830 or 312-341-8870 or by email at PPT-CG-CSM@state.gov if you are interested in participating or would like to learn more about Passport Day in the USA 2013.

You may also participate in Passport Day in the USA at participating non-State Department passport application acceptance facilities such as post offices, clerks of court, and libraries. We will update this website with a complete list of facility locations and hours. Check back later in February for more information!

This year, the Bureau of Consular Affairs is focusing on family travel.

Convenient Saturday hours ensure most parents don’t have to miss work to apply for their child’s U.S. passport. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to an agency or participating acceptance facility where there will be special activities for children.

Keep in mind that passports for children under the age of 16 expire every five years, and to apply for a passport for a child under the age of 16, both parents and the child need to appear in person or bring a notarized “Minor Consent” form signed by the absent parent.

If you are unable to visit one of the Department of State’s passport agencies or non-Department acceptance facilities on Passport Day, there are still ways to participate and benefit from Passport Day in the USA 2013.

@TravelGov will host a live twitter Q&A on Monday, March 4 at 10:00 a.m. EST. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Passport Services, Brenda S. Sprague will answer questions about passports for one hour. Tweet @TravelGov using #AskState, and we will answer your passport questions. Everyone is invited to join the conversation throughout the week by using the hashtag, #PPTDay. You can also visit Facebook.com/TravelGov beginning March 4 for daily passport tips and referrals to other online resources.
