Last night, I was proud to support a bipartisan package of bills that will honor our obligation to support our nation’s veterans. Among many other benefits, these bills aim to:
  • Widen the eligibility pool for veterans to qualify for federal housing aid.

Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed key legislation authorizing funding for improvements to America’s ports and waterways, as well as projects tied to drinking water, dams and levees, and environmental restoration.  It passed in an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote – 417 to 3 – which is rare for such a substantive bill in today’s politically toxic climate.

As you may know, the federal government is quickly approaching the restriction on the amount of national debt that can be issued by the U.S. Treasury, known as the “debt ceiling.” Most economists agree we will reach the debt limit in mid-October, at which point the government will default on its loans.
