Growing up on a farm in Dardanelle, my parents made sure I understood the value of a dollar and the value of saving a dollar. Unfortunately, I fear too many Americans today haven’t learned the same lessons about the importance of savings. Did you know the annual savings rate in the United States in 2012 was just 4.1 percent? And the average rate of Americans’ personal savings has declined about 56 percent over the last 50 years.
