On Tuesday the Constitution was read aloud in its entirety on the floor of the House of Representatives.  Congressman George Holding joined fellow Members of Congress in the reading, led by Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte.  This is only the second time the Constitution has been read aloud on the House floor, the first time being at the beginning of the 112th Congress.

Congressman Holding stated in a press release, “The Constitution is the supreme law of the land and establishes our nation’s core principles.  It lays out both the finite list of powers granted to the federal government and our rights as American citizens.  As President Ronald Reagan said, “We the People’ tell the government what to do; it doesn’t tell us. ‘We the People’ are the driver; the government is the car. And we decide where it should go, and by what route, and how fast[…] ‘We the People’ are free.’

“I believe as United States Representatives, it is with this notion that we must lead. I believe protecting Constitutional rights is of the upmost importance, and I am committed to doing so in the 113th Congress.”
