Congresswoman Edwards released the following statement today in response to the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

“I am saddened deeply by today’s tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all the young children who witnessed this horror.

“Our children deserve to attend school and be safe. I know we will unite in our prayers and commitment to support the children, families and communities affected by today’s tragic events.

"Our commitment must also be met by action to ensure that all our children are safe in their schools and in their neighborhoods. This is the conversation that must begin in earnest. I continue to pray for the families and for our courage as a nation in the face of this horror. “
