Thompson, Hawley to Tour Security at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport

(WASHINGTON) – On Monday, May 12, 2008, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, will visit Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia with Transportation Security Administration Administrator Kip Hawley to tour and receive a briefing on the security infrastructure at the airport.

The purpose of the visit is to look at the busiest airport in the country in light of their multi-million dollar renovation project and how this project falls in line with TSA’s efforts to incorporate new technology, passenger checkpoint programs and other initiatives to enhance security on commercial air flights.

The tour and briefing will focus on the construction of new checkpoints and passenger, baggage, and employee screening systems. Airport leadership, airline representatives, and Customs and Border Protection regional representatives will also be in attendance. There will also be a press conference at 1:45pm at the Main Checkpoint.
