Nolan to Push 8th District Jobs, Environment, Clean Energy as Newest Member of “Green” Coalition

Feb 11, 2014
Press Release

Washington, D.C.—Green jobs, environmental protection, and investment in new technologies, research, and clean energy will top Minnesota’s Eighth District Congressman Rick Nolan’s agenda as the newest member of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC).

Nolan, also a member of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy, and Forestry, said of joining SEEC:

“The science is clear - our climate is changing - and the cost in dollars, in damage, and in lives lost is staggering. The question is, what can Americans do about it?

First, we should alter our tax and regulatory policies to give alternative energy the same advantages we give to fossil fuels. We should require our foreign trading partners to meet our own high environmental standards, ensure we transport oil and gas in carbon-neutral ways – and hold every industry accountable to tough but achievable environmental goals. We should make the necessary investments to advance research and new technologies, to better meet the needs of the nation and the planet.

I look forward to working with my SEEC colleagues on advancing policies like these and more – encouraging us all to be responsible stewards of the earth.”

Said SEEC Co-Chair Rep. Steve Israel (NY-03), “I’m pleased to welcome Representative Rick Nolan to SEEC. Rep. Nolan understands that preserving our environment and growing the economy go hand-in-hand. I look forward to working alongside him to promote policies that will improve our environment, address climate change, and create jobs.”
