Van Hollen Applauds President’s Call to Address the Sequester

Feb 5, 2013 Issues: Sequester

Washington, DC -- Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued the following statement on President Obama’s call to replace the sequester:

“As the President made clear today, Congress must address the sequester.  If it cannot do so as part of a large, balanced deficit reduction package, we must pass a short-term plan to replace these deep, indiscriminate cuts.  House Democrats offered a balanced plan today that would have saved American jobs and replaced the sequester for this year.  House Republicans would not even allow a vote on the House Floor on the plan, instead pushing a bill that fails to address any of our looming fiscal challenges.  It’s time for real solutions, not budget gimmicks.”
