Rep. Ellison Statement on Vote Against FY 2015 Defense Spending Bill

Dec 4, 2014
Press Release

WASHINGTON—Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) released the following statement today after voting against the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2015.

“The taxpayer money spent in the defense bill passed today makes it harder for Congress to invest in affordable housing, access to education for working families, and job-creating projects to rebuild our roads and bridges.

“The 2015 NDAA wastes billions on outdated weapons systems and refills a Pentagon slush fund at a time when Congress should invest to put Americans back to work. The bill continues the war in Afghanistan, ignores the need for Congress to authorize the use of military force in Iraq and Syria and keeps the status quo for prisoners held indefinitely at Guantanamo Bay.

“If we're going to fight inequality, we must invest in our families--not a Pentagon wish list."
