CONGRESSMAN RUBÉN HINOJOSA ANNOUNCES NEARLY 4 MILLION DOLLARS IN HUD GRANTS AWARDED TO THE CITIES OF EDINBURG, MCALLEN AND PHARR FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING

Washington, D.C.--Today-- Congressman Rubén Hinojosa announced the Department of U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded a total of $3,989,986 to the cities of Edinburg, McAllen and Pharr to create affordable housing for low and moderate-income persons.

"The leadership of each of these cities should be commended for doing a great job in obtaining these federal grants for affordable housing in our region," said U.S. Rep. Hinojosa. "These much needed funds will serve so many of our residents who are having a difficult time finding a decent and affordable place to live. Many individuals and families will be assisted through the efforts of those who have planned well for their cities."

The City of Edinburg will receive $907,409, the City of McAllen will receive $1,494,102 and the City of Pharr was awarded $1,153,561 under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program that provides annual grants to States and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment principally for low and moderate-income persons and families.

The City of McAllen was also awarded a grant for $434, 914 under the HOME program which helps expand the supply of decent and affordable housing to low and very low income families by providing these grants to States and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.
