VIDEO RELEASE: House Acts on American Energy, Job Creation
WASHINGTON –Today, Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam (R-IL) released a video response to a constituent from Glen Ellyn, Illinois who wrote in concerned about high energy costs and their impact on families during this time of weak economic recovery.
This week couldn’t have offered a more stark contrast between the priorities of the president and the House GOP. While the president announced essentially a new tax on energy that would kill jobs and make energy more expensive, the House of Representatives passed two bills that would put Americans to work, make energy prices more affordable and strengthen our economy:
- H.R. 1613, the Outer Continental Shelf Transboundary Hydrocarbon Agreements Authorization Act, will open new areas for thoughtful energy exploration along the Gulf of Mexico.
- H.R. 2231, the Offshore Energy and Jobs Act, will jumpstart responsible energy production by opening new areas to exploration along America’s western and eastern coastlines.

“…What we don’t need is a more heavy-handed regulation, higher costs of energy, that does what? It makes it more expensive to manufacture in this country, more expensive for us to heat and to cool our homes and more expensive for us to use our automobiles. Instead, the House has taken a different approach and has passed legislation that would open up domestic sources of energy to new exploration, to allow new supplies to come into energy fields and allow us to pursue those in very thoughtful ways.”
