Roskam: Stop Stonewalling and Start Building

WASHINGTON, DC– Today, Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06) released the following statement after House passage of H.R. 5682, which approves construction of the Keystone XL pipeline:

“For six years President Obama has stalled construction of the Keystone XL pipeline. And even though his own State Department concluded that the pipeline’s environmental impact would be negligible, the president continues to hide behind debunked environmental claims to please his far-left Hollywood base. Building Keystone will help create thousands of good-paying jobs, increase North American energy independence, and help fuel a domestic energy renaissance. The midterm elections were in large part a message from the American people to work together and get things done. Keystone is broadly supported by a wide array of traditionally competing groups, from Republican and Democratic lawmakers to labor unions and business leaders, to our close international allies. I hope the president will listen to the American people, stop stonewalling a good idea with widespread support, and allow pipeline construction to begin without further delay.”
