NEW YORK, NY – Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12), author of the 9/11 James Zadroga Health & Compensation Act, attended today’s dedication ceremony of the 9/11 Museum ahead of its opening next week. The ceremony was attended by over 400 family members of those who were lost on September 11, 2001.  At the conclusion of the event, Rep. Maloney issued the following statement:

“I was truly touched and deeply moved by the dedication ceremony of the 9/11 Museum. I was honored to join President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and so many other distinguished guests for this historic event.

“The ceremony and the museum itself embody the stories of heroism from that day and honor the lives of those we lost. This museum contains countless artifacts that celebrate the valor, kindness and selfless sacrifice that shone through the tragedy of that day. Though our wounds may never completely heal, this museum will bring some comfort to those who lived through 9/11 and will ensure that future generations do not forget.

“My proudest achievements in Congress are passing the Zadroga Act and supporting the legislation that created the 9/11 Commission and leading the charge to implement its recommendations. The Zadroga Act has helped ensure that first responders who became sick and continue to suffer as a result of the toxins they were exposed to at Ground Zero receive the healthcare they have earned. The 9/11 Commission’s report taught us critical lessons on how we can improve our national intelligence operations to more swiftly respond to threats and keep Americans safer.

“Our country was irreversibly changed after September 11th. The Museum conjures painful memories, but I believe it is also a symbol of resiliency and hope that has always defined New York City and the United States.”
