Congressman Stephen Fincher

Representing the 8th District of TENNESSEE

Christian Values

I believe that the most basic human right is the right to life. My belief that life begins at conception and that abortion is not an option make me a decidedly pro-life member of Congress. I am a supporter of the effort to put an end to the many abortions that occur every year in this country.  In the 113th Congress, I have cosponsored seven different bills to end abortions. On May 8, 2013, I also introduced House Resolution 206, which expresses the need for Congress to investigate abusive, unsanitary, and illegal abortion practices like those of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, who was recently convicted of murder for his role in running an illegal abortion clinic in Philadelphia.

The United States was founded on principles that include “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Abortion denies these rights to the thousands of unborn children aborted every year. The founders included in their ten amendments to the Constitution a provision that protected the rights of the people to practice whatever religion they chose without interference from the government. Washington already meddles in the lives of the individual enough, and mandates that violate the religious beliefs of the people like those associated with abortion would are wrong. If we are to move forward as a nation, we must continue to respect one another’s religious beliefs, just as the founders intended.

I support the following legislation:
