WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman George Holding (NC-13) issued the following statement after Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko addressed a joint session of Congress today:
"At a time of great unrest around the world, I welcomed President Poroshenko’s historic address to a joint session of Congress as a symbol of America’s historic leadership.
“The U.S. has a responsibility to stand for freedom and democracy, but sadly our president fails to confront these challenges as chaos ensues. The president’s decision to retreat from the world stage has created a vacuum filled by aggression across the globe.
“As President Poroshenko said, ‘With just one move, the world has been thrown back in time — to a reality of territorial claims, zones of influence, criminal aggression and annexations.' I stand with President Poroshenko as he urges ‘America to lead the way’ and I call on our president to lead with courage and conviction on the world stage."
